I truly don’t understand it. So, so many people devote their lives to hurting others. In school last week, there was a current event about the tragedy at Virginia Tech. There are always questions that you have an option to answer and speak your own opinion. One of the questions was, “Do you think that NBC had the right to post images, video, etc. on the news?”
In my opinon, secrecy never does any good. At all. Bush claimed in 2001 that we were going into Iraq to stop Sadam Hussein because he had nuclear weapons. Well, it is kind of odd that we are still there, when Joe Wilson, (US ambassador of Iraq,) proved that Saddam Hussein actually didn’t have any nuclear weapons. Then, mysteriously, right after Joe Wilson proves that, his wife, Valerie Plane’s career as a secret government agent was leaked! Yet, Bush still has not spoken the truth about why we are still in Iraq.
On Fox’s show 24, there are many events where the mock-White House decides not to tell the citizens of America just exactly what is going on, because, in their opinion, the American people, (and in some cases the actual president,) won’t do the right thing. How can anything ever be the right thing when people need to hide it?
When it comes to Virginia Tech, the world deserved to know just what happened. Yeah, it’s scary. Anything that unbelievably horrible is horrifying, but, just because something frightens you or is intimidating, what in your opinion is better?
Option A:
Being to scared to think about it, avoiding it, builiding it up sub-consciously in your mind, never knowing the truth, therefore never really being able to move on/get over it.
Option B:
Facing what you need to head on, allowing yourself time to heal and do what you need to do, therefore being able to live your life to the fullest and be whole, not carrying around unneeded scars with you.
In my opinion, the worst thing you can do is hide from the things that scare you, that will never let you move on. Hiding under the covers from the ghosts/monsters in your room is one thing, but lying to the entire country about a very important matter is a complete other. What has happend to democracy? I just don’t think it is in the constitution’s vocabulary anymore.
I urge you to look up a really incredible video by poet Steve Connell. He is so very kind, smart, and talented.

That’s incredibly insightful of you. Unfortunately, it seems that so many people think that if they just stick their heads in the sand, the problem will go away. But history itself has taught us that this is the worst possible strategy we could take! Seriously, how can we expect a fair democracy if we insist on keeping ourselves ignorant? Keep up the great work…

Maddie, I absolutely agree with you! We should know about what happened at Virginia Tech. Bush should not lie to his own country about why he is in war with Iraq. And yes, Steve Connell is a great poet…
