My amazing literary agent just officially announced my book deal yesterday. My book “Supergirls Speak Out: the Secret Dilemma of Overachieving Girls” will be published by Touchstone/Fireside (an imprint of Simon and Schuster) in January of 2009.
The book is reporting on the lives of “Supergirls,” the young women in middle school, high school, college, and their twenties, who strive to be the best at everything, from getting all A’s, to coming in first during the cross country race, to editing the school newspaper and leading student government and organizing prom, to landing an amazing internship, to attending a great college and landing an impressive job, to being a trustworthy daughter and sister, a great girlfriend and a reliable friend. I’m exploring how Supergirls are boosting women’s progress, but moreso, how this pressure to be perfect hurts girls.
I personally consider myself a Supergirl and I know there are many, many others out there who have been affected by this phenomenon and have stories to tell.
So, I want to hear from YOU. Are you a Supergirl? What is it like? Or, do you know some Supergirls? What are their lives like? Do you think they’re happy? Either shoot me an e-mail at liz@girlheadquarters.org or leave some comments!
It is definitely time for the Supergirls to SPEAK OUT!

Liz, that’s wonderful news. I just found your site and will bookmark it and also send the link to my daughters. Good luck with the book (my blogging partner and I just turned our manuscript in to our publisher last week! Don’t let the blog name fool you!) You are articulate and funny, and I’m sure your book will be a hit!
