Every Thursday night, my mother and I watch Grey’s Anatomy. It’s not even negotiable. If you’re in our house and you want to watch something else, you can go elsewhere. If you try to contact me between 9 and 10, you’ll be very unsuccessful. Even if I have a huge test to study for or a paper to write, my work will be on the coffee table waiting for commercial breaks. Then at the conclusion of the program, I get back to work. However, last night the show left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied as it left 324767 problems unsolved for the season finale next week.
Wanting something more, I found myself drawn to a commercial at 10 promoting a “super sneak peek” of a new show called Will Traveler. So I watched it. And while I didn’t get the closure I was looking for, my curiosity was definitely piqued. So here’s the story: three Yale Grad students are on a roadtrip, starting in New York city. Will Traveler (Aaron Stanford) was in charge of planning the trip, Tyler Fog (Logan Marshall-Green) is responsible for paying for everything (no big deal since his father is one of the richest, if not most popular, men in the country), and Jay Burchell (Matthew Bomer) is supposed to keep them all out of trouble. And they’re all absolutely gorgeous. ![]()
Simple, right? Well, the next day the story begins to unfold and things get a little Heroes-esque in terms of keeping everything straight. Basically, Will suggests they pull an age-old prank(?) of having his two friends rollerblading down the stairs at the Drexler Art Museum (bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Met) while he follows, videotaping the fiasco. Our first clue that something is awry is that once Tyler and Jay are down the first flight, Traveler puts down the camera and runs up the stairs. His buddies, causing quite a commotion, manage to skate past all the angry-looking security guards and plow through the masses, who are being evacuated for a fire drill. When they reach the outside, Jay picks up a call from Will, who worriedly says “Did you get out?!” When Jay answers yes and asks where Will is, the latter replies, “I’m sorry…” and the museum explodes. Woah.
So now the police are after Tyler and Jay, who they think are terrorists responsible for a bomb in the building. The Yale grads freak out and run away, making the rest of the episode a series of chase scenes and inside looks at the police search. Meanwhile, Jay realizes that he and Tyler may have been set up by Will, and he frantically looks for his roommate. But guess what? Will Traveler is a fake name and, despite having lived with him for two years, Jay has no pictures of his friend. Ohh boy…
Long story short, we’re being primed for a crazy rollercoaster to make us want to watch the show. Enticing, but provides about as much closure as a 15-minute episode of Lost. And I, a self-admitted closure addict, find myself needing to know what happens next. Who is Will Traveler? I have no idea, but as long as I get to stare at Logan Marshall-Green’s remarkable bone structure, I’ll tune in to find out.
