…Why we think ultra-conservatives can be a little crazy, check out this video featuring a debate between a woman from a prominent pro-choice group and a woman from a prominent anti-choice group discussing a new birth control pill that completely eliminates having periods.
(Which, personally, sounds cool.)
Anyway, the anti-choice lady is sort of creepy (watch her at the end), and she is interupting! All of the conservatives I know and whenever you see conservatives on TV, they are always interupting! Drives me crazy.
OOH: just to clarify, the things that the lady with the icky blonde haircut is saying aren’t actually true. Going on birth control does not make you sterile (not able to have babies), Planned Parenthood and NARAL do not want to control women, and supporting access to birth control doesn’t make you “against babies.” Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I absolutely melt at the sight of a baby, but I’m also adamantly pro-choice.

Yeah, that woman is definatley a bit crazy, just one thing though, the woman who is pro-choice is also interrupting a little bit too. I just think it’s important to pay attention to both of the pros and cons (if there are any) of both sides. Also, the deaths of illegal abortions are so high every single year, if the country spent more money on keeping their actual citizens safe than killing thousands of innocent non-citizens, then I think everyone would be a lot safer. Really good post, Liz, I think it is such an important issue.

great post liz!
a few trends i’ve noticed from many of the freaky antis i have encountered:
antis care about life up until conception. not after it. (if so they would join forces with us liberals to stop global warming, poverty, homelessness, give women equal pay and labor equity, ensure proper nutrition and health care for all children, etc
antis selectively choose to forget science, placing ideology above medical fact to move their right wing agenda
antis only think about their glorified visions of the unborn, not human breathing women’s lives.
antis don’t consider quality of life. their view is simplistic and short sided.
ants don’t delve into issues of intersectionality when discussing race, class, and sex issues. they don’t accept the fact that societal systems perpetuate these problems.
instead of supporting prevention, they cause more abortions and sexually transmitted diseases by promoting unsafe and ineffective and inaccurate abstinence-only sex-education
i end with the final quote… one of my former colleagues had a shirt i loved it said, ” i think therefore i am pro choce”
