Did you know that on June 12th, 1967, interracial couples became legal due to the Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia? If not you can learn more about the court case that changed our country and celebrate our legal right to love a person of any race on Loving Day this year. Check out www.lovingday.org for information about the history, to read about relationship triumphs and challenges, and to check out images from past Loving Day events.
As someone who lives in an incredibly diverse city who still experiences occasional harrassment and dirty stares from intolerant people due to my interracial relationship, I think it is imperative that we share our stories, support programs like www.ilpledge.org that promote equality for all people (including same-sex marriages), and take a stand against hate and injustice.
While getting in the spirit of Loving Day I am thinking about Gwen Stefani and Andre 2000’s tribute song to interracial love entitled “Long Way to Go”. Check it out on itunes. I like the question she asks in the song that says it all in my opinion– “What color is love?”
David Bowie and Iman
(Crazy but true: Before Loving v. Virginia this beautiful family would have been illegal.)

Aw, that is such a beautiful picture. And, it’s true, what color is love?? That’s such a great point.
