First off, I want to say hi I’m Beth, the new blogger and I am so excited to be a part of the GHQ team. For my first post, I wanted it to be something important so I could really come in with a bang, and what better way to bang than with Paris Hilton, right?
As I write this post, Paris is heading back to jail and I’m starting to realize just how bored I am of her situation… and her in general. The same goes for Lindsay, Nicole, and Britney. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.
So, I still want to write about young Hollywood, but not about booze and partying and rehab and prison. Instead I want to write about young stars and what they’re doing that’s positive.
For instance, Hilary Duff donated 2 million meals through USA Harvest to help the Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts. She’s also a charter member of Kids With A Cause.org and sponsored a “Food For a Friend” drive, which collected canned foods brought to her show in each city to feed more than 22,000 children at shelters around the country.
Hilary isn’t the only celeb putting her time and effort out there. I recently met Aly & AJ when they performed at the launch of Samsung’s Hope For Education. They were super sweet, and were so excited to be the spokespeople for the program. The duo hope to help raise awareness about how important it is to provide public schools with the latest technology and educational tools and help bridge the technological gap that many schools face. (Fun tidbit – AJ is walking with her senior class this year and is the valedictorian! When Aly graduated high school, she was also the valedictorian. These sisters are talented, giving, andsmart!)
Some of you might have seen last season’s America’s Next Top Model winner on the cover of some magazines, but she’s not just posing for pictures. CariDee English is also using her fame to reach out. She was recently named the spokesperson of the National Psoriasis Foundation and she plans to spread the word about the disease, her hope for a cure, and forming psoriasis support groups. CariDee struggled with the disease most of her life and it almost ruined her dreams of modeling!
Although I’m guilty of picking up the latest issues of US Weekly or People to see what crazy shenanigans Paris has gotten herself into, I also think it’s important to observe and appreciate what these young, talented, beautiful women are doing to make a difference. And I know these four aren’t the only ones. Maybe it’s time we stop watching Lindsay’s every move and start celebrating the girls who really deserve it.
That’s me with CariDee — she’s even prettier in person and is just as fun and goofy as she was on the show!

You are exactly right Beth. The media is out of control. Our obsession with Paris, Britney and all the other party girls, is giving the wrong ideas to kids. We’re basically telling our kids if you drink, do drugs, and go completely crazy you’ll get attention and be “cool” like them. I think it’s great that you are pointing out the amazing things that ACTUALLY count. Writing a check or having fans donate at concerts are the things I wish I was reading about and hearing about constantly. Those are things that are important to me, and should be important to everyone.
