La Vie En Rose the new movie about chanteuse Edith Piaf’s (aka “The Little Sparrow) amazing life is playing in NYC! I’m dying to see it. I’m a big Edith Piaf fan. Je ne regrette rien is one of my top ten favorite songs and those words have inspired me to do what i really want to do with my life and move away from actions motivated by fear.
I love Piaf’s magical voice and the places it takes me to. When I listen to her I feel like i’ve drifted into a romantic French movie in black and white on the silver screen, wind whipping across my face, silk scarf wrapped around my neck— going to meet some charming and handsome intellectual for a cup of chocolat and mind blowing conversation.
Piaf’s life was filled with extreme difficulty, sadness, and triumph. Raised in a brothel and reared on the streets, Piaf endured so much pain in her life. I love memoirs and biographical portraits that depict extreme human passion and endurance on the page and screen.I appreciate a good buildungsroman —I can’t wait to see the movie and drift away to paris, move through history, pay homage to a fierce female artist who suffered through so much heartbreak and terror but healed many through her song and her work in the French Resistance in WWII.
Also, the actress playing Piaf is amazing. Marion Cotillard is outstanding and beautiful. I read a wonderful article about her in Bust magazine and her depiction is reportedly en pointe.

You’ll love the film, I saw it in Paris last month and it’s just mind-blowing. Marion Cotillard is astonishing - I’m a hard-core Piaf fan, and it was almost like seeing her come back to life. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
