Have you ever just had one of those days where you just forget all the stresses in your life and just sit back and enjoy life’s ride? Well, today definitely turned out to be one of those days. My 19-year-old sister, who’s a biology major, had her entire lab over for a pool party today and I just had a wonderful time. I’ll admit, at first I thought that there’s no way that I’d be able to relate to “science” people, but they were all so incredible.
I spent most of the cloudless, 80 degree day with one of the lab member’s two children, who were three and five. Since I’m good with kids and have baby lust, as you all know by now, I had a great time. We played Simon Says and organized a game of fetch with my dogs. I ate whatever I wanted and didn’t care about whether or not it would end up on my hips later…a cheeseburger, a margarita, vanilla ice cream with a brownie. I wore huge brown tortoiseshell sunglasses and soaked up the sun’s rays (with sunscreen of course!)
I ended the night around a campfire with my brother and his best friend, and my 18-year-old sister and her best friend, one of the most hilariously outgoing boys I’ve ever met. We roasted marshmallows and made s’mores and I got phone calls from my three best friends from college. I finally made it back upstairs to my room at 1:15 a.m. and showered all the smoke and chlorine out of my hair. I checked my e-mail and I got one from my best friend since age 15 who’s in Russia for most of the summer. As I finish this post I’m thinking about the future. Job in D.C.? It’ll come soon. Learning how to live on my own? It’ll fall into place.
It’s funny what these kind of days can do to you.
