As I was perusing Newsweek at lunch this afternoon, I came across a very interesting article. It talked about how the age-old question of our generation is: “Facebook or Myspace?” I read on, chuckling about how for our mothers it was “Paul or John?” (as in The Beatles) or for our dads, “Betty or Veronica?” (as in Archie comics)
Apparently, many teens and young adults have both a Facebook and Myspace account. However, the article says that many are avid users of both, most tend to favor just one.
In relation to class, the article says that Facebook users tend to be “goodie two shoes, jocks, athletes, or other ‘good’ kids.” Myspace youth tend to come from parents who didn’t go to college and who are expected to get a job right out of high school.
According to the article, “Facebook users are strivers; Myspacers are there in part because they’re rejecting the values of preppies, jocks and tools.” Now as much as I tend to fit the bill, as I am what many have described as a “good kid.” I’m definitely more on the preppier side, but I don’t walk around popping my collar. In fact, every time I see a popped one, I have the overwhelming urge to fold it down. Maybe it’s the OCD in me…haha. I do use Facebook a lot more than Myspace, but I do have a Myspace account.
However, my friends on Myspace come from all different types of homes, with all different styles. I think that this article isn’t exactly right, in my opinion. Anyway, I’m here to hear what you think. Comment your agreement or disagreement with this theory.

I don’t have a facebook or myspace. (I’m a little young, maybe when school starts I’ll get one,) but thinking about it, and which one I would prefer, and how it relates to other people is kind of interesting. I do go on myspace often now to check out different bands, etc. and if I had to choose one I think I would prefer a myspace, and then again, I think I’m more artsy than preppy. I think what your talking about is true but not all the time. good post!
