It is certainly a sad day in the world of publishing. USA Today has reported that O.J. Simpson’s book (I’d call it more of a confession) If I Did It will indeed be published. I’m not sure if everyone remembers, but this was the man who endured a very public trial regarding the slaughter of his ex wife Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman in 1995. He was found not guilty…unfortunately. I will leave my feelings for that verdict for another day. The family of Ronald Goldman has reached an agreement to publish the book because portions of the sales will be put to the Ron Goldman Foundation for Justice. It was already scrapped once in 2006 because the public found it just as revolting as I do. Apparently, money doesn’t speak loud, it screams.
I have one word that describes this development: heinous. How on earth is this happening? The decision that Goldman family is deciding to use this book as a way of getting financially compensated is quite disgusting, but it is not what infuriates me. I just cannot believe that O.J. Simpson has the audacity to write this book. Isn’t it enough that both these families have to live with the realization that a guilty man is walking around free? Now, they have to endure the rehashing of this case all over again? Simpson is heartless, a complete pathetic thing. (Can you even call him human?)
As a writer, I realize that sometimes we write and publish pieces that may potentially affect others in a negative way. This book completely goes above and beyond that. I’m trying to remain calm though because karma will come around and Simpson (and the publishers) will certainly feel it.
