I was reading the new Newsweek yesterday evening, after being intrigued by its cover story on Facebook. The face of 23-year-old creator Mark Zuckerberg was smiling up at me, beckoning me to read his story. And quite a story it was…
Zuckerberg created Facebook at age 19…that’s right…19. Zuckerberg, a Harvard dropout, began the site as thefacebook.com in the spring of 2005. I remember that September of 2005, when I signed up to join the site. It was so fascinating, and so simple. I’ve been hooked since that fall day when my friend Gaby told me all about it (and to think I was reluctant to join!)
Anyway, Zuckerberg’s genius idea just keeps getting bigger. If you read on the site further, you’ll see that he opened up the applications features on the site and also turned down a $1 billion offer from Yahoo. I believe he did this because he is most likely making the same amount, if not more.
After reading this, I was struck with how inspirational Zuckerberg’s story was. Think of all the potential that creative entities out there today by teens, including GHQ. Yeah, I’m going to go off on a little promotion of this publication I work for right now…
GirlHeadquarters.org has proven to be a great place for young intelligent, creative and hilarious women to voice their opinions. I think that it definitely has the potential to be even bigger than it is now. The girls that blog for GHQ are definitely leaders of other females today. Keep up the good work, and definitely check out this week’s Newsweek!
