Hello everybody!
I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I start a new school in a week, and things have been pretty crazy with preparations and fast start programs and everything.
Anyways, as Liz introduced, I am quoted in Danica McKellar’s new book about girls and math, called “Math Doesn’t Suck.” –interesting title, huh? Anyways, I first heard about the book when an email was forwarded to my mom. The email was Danica asking people who have teenage daughters, (between 11 and probably 18,) to write about what they think about math, about playing dumb, and things like this. I wrote a good few paragraphs, pretty lenghty, and sent it on. Then, to my surprise, I got an email back from Danica! She was so nice and very supportive and encouraging when it came to me writing something to go in her book. I wrote about a page, past it on, she would comment or ask me questions, and the whole process was really great.
When it comes to math, I kind of love it. Last year I took the 7th grade math course, Pre-Algebra, which is pretty challenging, and loved the thrill of it. Next year, I’m taking an 8th grade course, Algebra 1, which I’m soooooooooo excited about! Math is great for me because academically it’s challenging, and it’s great to attempt to succeed, and to succeed at something as difficult. I hope that everyone finds something, even if not math, that challenges them and that they love and enjoy. That kind of love is truly wonderful, and hard!
P.S. In the book my quote was mainly about acting stupid in front of boys and how it’s no good at all. I think a lot of people do, I’ve done it, and that doesn’t justify it. It’s a painful thing to go through and put yourself/have yourself in that position, so just know that as a girl, you don’t have to act stupid!
