Miscellaneous Post

By Liz Funk on September 25th, 2007 ·

It’s the middle of the night, I’m totally scattered, and I have a few hours of homework and work to do before I go to bed, so needless to say, this is the perfect time to post on GHQ! Few thoughts:

1. I interviewed a sociology professor a little while ago for my book and learned something very, very interesting. The pay gap starts around age 12, because boys get more lucrative first jobs: why do we socially condition girls to babysit as their first jobs, while boys get lawnmowing and snow-shoveling gigs? In most suburban towns, the going rate for babysitters is what, like $4-$6 an hour? Whereas boys can get as much as $30 a lawn or $20 a driveway, even if it only takes them an hour!
2. I am obsessed with the new show Lil’ Bush. I’ll blog about it later, but I think it’s the funniest show ever. I love it.
3. Okay, so I got a profile on LinkedIn. I think it’s like Facebook for grown-ups, but it has some really interesting features. If you’re on it, add me!

Okay, back to working!
