I’ve been meaning to write about my thoughts earlier last week when I watched the 1959 classic movie Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Doris Day. I’ve always been a sucker for old movies and I can’t say that this one was any different. I loved it!
It’s just so interesting to see movies from back then. They weren’t rated, but there really was no reason for them to be. Everything was so modest. One particular scene I loved was when Day is in bed and Hudson storms into her room, demanding she fix his apartment that she redecorated. She covers herself up to her chin, despite the fact that she has a full-on nightgown covering every inch of her. Nowadays, in scenes like that, most women would be clad in nothing but a skimpy bra and a thong. It’s funny how much can change in 50 years.
The sexual innuendos were hilarious too. I actually chuckled to myself when Hudson accused Day of having “bedroom problems.” For some reason I loved this movie so much for that reason because I think it’s so much more fun to hint around at sex, and to have that sexual tension. I’ll admit, at times it makes you just want to scream because you wish characters would just get on with it already, but at the same time I think that’s what makes love great—that thrill of the chase that Rock Hudson had when he pursued Doris Day.
If you have OnDemand or any sort of digital cable program, Pillow Talk is showing now.
I mean come on, there’s just something innately romantic about a black-and-white movie. ![]()
