I hate missing class. Not only does it usually mean I get a 0 for class participation that day but it completely throws me off track. I end up having to hand in assignments late and miss the lecture and discussion. Sometimes, though, I cannot seem to motivate myself to wake up early and spend my day hopping from building to building. At times like these I like to remember why I’m in college… to go to class, to learn, to prepare for the rest of my life, a big part of that being my career. Private universities like SU are so incredibly expensive that I must not forget the investment I have made into my education.
Unfortunately, not one of these incentives could’ve got me to my classes today.
Instead, I went to health services and got some medical advice. Very bad news, I either have a viral strep throat or mono, both of which are contagious and require a lot of rest. The doctor gave me some medication to take, helped me make an appt for the end of the week if I keep getting worse (at that point I'd be able to take the mono test) and handed me a yellow slip of paper with her signature. My excused absence. Earlier this morning, I photocopied the note and e-mailed my professors about my condition. Looks like class is going to have to wait, now I need to focus on my health.
