The New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women ROCKS. Their president, Sonia Ossorio, is an absolutely amazing organizer and has been a leading force in the fight against sexual slavery in New York City.
Her latest victory? For the past several months, she and the activists of NOW-NYC have been presssuring New York magazine to stop running its ads for brothels where women who have been trafficked into the United States to be prostitutes against their wills. This is an issue thats close to my heart, a) because I love New York City and the concept of women being enslaved there sickens me, and b) I LOVE New York magazine (it makes me happy in ways I can’t explain) and have always hated those icky ads in the back.
Sooo… today New York magazine has announced that they will pull the ads and will work with NOW-NYC! Yay!!! So, cheers to NOW-NYC AND New York magazine. Isn’t activism amazing?
So Proud!
