I have been playing electric bass for about 1 1/2, 2 years and I found out during the summer that my new upcoming school only offered an orchestra position for basses! I panicked! I had two choices:
a)I could ask my electric bass teacher to give me a lot of stand up lessons over the summer (he barely knows how to play stand up, but we could try,) and I would have to squeeze about 2 years of playing into 2 months.
b) Just automatically go into beginning strings.
You see there is beginning strings, concert, and symphony. Basically beginner, intermediate, and advanced. So I tried to learn in those 2 months, but it didn’t work. I went into beginning strings and thought that it would be really boring. But after a couple months, I kind of started to fall in love with it. Just the whole thought of the strings, and us being together, the kind of unity and independence that went into it. Today was my rehersal for our concert, and I loved it! I loved watching the concerts strings section play after us, and got thrills at some of the songs. I may be the only person bobbing their head like a mock classical rockstar, but it’s fun and wonderful all the same.
