I’m sure many of you GirlHeadQuarters girls out there are familiar with the show Gossip Girl on the CW, along with its hit book series of the same name. I have become an avid watcher of the show and consider myself a fan. Anyway, things that have been going on in my life have made me relate to one particular character on the show: Vanessa.
Vanessa was just recently introduced. She’s pretty and mysterious, and I adore her curly hair. Played by Jessica Szohr, she is Dan Humphrey’s childhood best friend who moved away. She comes back and tries to be close with Dan again, except she finds him dating the most popular, beautiful girl in school, Serena. Secretly though, I think she is in love with Dan. Blair, ever the observant one, picks up on this right away.
I understand how Vanessa may feel, especially if Dan and her had some sort of a past (it’s never revealed if they actually dated or not). Or if Dan never returned her feelings. It’s a sucky, for lack of a better word, feeling. I think that she feels as if she’d do anything for this boy and he just won’t return her feelings. It’s kind of the trap that I always fall into, the “sweetheart” trap. She’s the greatest friend the boy will ever have, but never seems to figure out how to be something more.
There’s a lot of fans who hate Vanessa out there, but I say as much as I love the blonde, gorgeous and just as equally nice and friendly Serena, here’s to the brunette, sweet Vanessas of the world.
