Recently, my friend introduced me to opera. I have never seen an opera though I had this weird feeling that I would enjoy it. I was given La Traviata on DVD and I sat down one evening last week to watch it. I was instantly intrigued and excited to learn that a few of my favorite movies (including my most favorite Moulin Rouge) were based on La Traviata.
I remember thinking as I watched the opera, wow…I wish I understood Italian. Despite the subtitles, I really would love to someday learn another language besides basic (and boy do I mean BASIC) Spanish and Latin, which is dead anyway. I have always thought French and Italian were incredibly romantic.
Admiration should also most definitely be had for the actors and actresses in the opera. It takes a lot of time and energy to learn and memorize the songs sung in different languages. I think that it is a lost art form that many youth tend to overlook.
As a self-confessed romantic and Bohemian at heart, I’ve become very interested in opera and definitely recommend it to those looking to broaden their horizons and learn something new.
