Just a quick note to say Happy Birthday to Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that gave women in America the right to choose. I wholeheartedly believe in reproductive justice and I am thankful that I live in a time where I have the autonomy to make personal decisions about my body. Even though we have a hostile court and many barriers standing in the way of our continued right to choose, I celebrate the freedom we have today. Today, I am still extremely proud to have been a part of the Planned Parenthood family, fighting to protect my rights, my mother’s rights, and the rights of my sisters around the world.
Gloria Feldt, former President of Planned Parenthood wrote a beautiful piece today about the importance of us remembering Roe when we decide who will be our next president. I encourage you to read it and reflect on the role of Roe in our lives as women and girls. For me, Roe isn’t just about abortion. Roe is about the right to make decisions about my body on my own without the interference of government, special interest hardliners, or the political church. My body is my body, and my ancestors fought too hard for my right to agency for me to let it slip away.
