I’ve been listening a lot lately to Rilo Kiley’s latest album, Under the Blacklight. When it first came out a few months ago, as a hugeee Rilo Kiley fan, I was a bit resistent. It had been hailed as a sell-out, and tons and tons of RK fans veered clear of giving it a chance, but, seriously, I sware if you give this album a chance it is sooo wonderfully REWARDING! I sware man, it belongs in the 70’s. It’s some luscious 70s pop mixed with some classic rk feelings acoustic guitars cowbells and a smoke detector that I sware is hailing straight out of Hairspray. And I know I’ve posted about this before, but let me just tell you how truly amazing they are live, and how my eyes got all teary-eyed when I looked at the Coachella lineup (gigantic music festival in Indio, CA) and got soooo sad to see all these amaaaazing bands playing (Rilo Kiley, Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins, Jack Johnson, ROGER WATERS,) and was sad due to that I am mostlikely not going….
Anyways, I have tons of RK tracks to publicize…
off of 2nd album (which is hailing from label Saddle Creek–also home to Bright Eyes, Maria Taylor, and a Georgie James album…)
The Execution of All Things:
download: The Good That Won’t Come Out, The Execution of All Things, Paint’s Peeling, With Arms Outstretched, My Slumbering Heart
my favorite Rilo K album, More Adventurous:
Does He Love You?, The Absence of God, More Adventurous, I Never, It Just Is and for all you political gals, watch out for that political crack on “It’s A Hit…”
Under The Blacklight:
Breakin’ Up, Dreamworld, 15, Smoke Detector, When the Angels Hung Around, Give a Little Love
I see that it would’ve been a shorter list if I just listed the songs I didn’t like, but what can I say….
off of Jenny Lewis’s solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat:
Melt Your Heart, Handle With Care (a Traveling Wilbury’s cover feat. man masterkinds Conor Oberst, M. Ward, and Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service singer Ben Gibbard), Born Secular, You Are What You Love
off of Blake Sennett (guitar player/singer) album with band The Elected, album Sun, Sun, Sun:
It Was Love, Sun Sun Sun, Beatuiful Rainbow, Old Times
This band is wonderful, and I hope that you find them amazing too!
xoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxobest wishes
p.s. you also might want to check out my latest obsession, happening to be Jenny Lewis’s boyfriend, Johnathan Rice. album: Further North track: We’re All Stuck Out In The Dessert
p.s.s I know i’m posting this video for the second time, but it totally deserves it! I was at this show that the video and pic were taken at, and I’m serious, it was amazing.
