It’s a Tuesday afternoon and I should be working on Non Fiction portfolio of even my Senior Seminar’s term paper, but alas I am watching another episode of Scrubs. Why am I telling you about my procrastination?
Well because I just saw a commercial of Edge Shaving Gel (men’s shaving cream). It begins by asking the question, what makes new Edge Gel different? It then explains it’s ingredients (aloe and several moisturizers) by showing women scantily dressed holding water guns that shoot out foam labeled moisturizer and aloe. (I have attempted to find this commercial on YouTube, but it isn’t posted.) The website is dedicating this ad campaign to the “gel girls.” Its opening logo to the website is, “Be a man. Learn from girls.”
So now men can’t properly groom themselves without women? Apparently we are just that vital in a man’s preparation for the day. I’m pretty sure that women do not need to envision men while they are carefully smoothing their legs, underarms and bikini regions, applying make up or dressing themselves in the morning. I guess we really are more self sufficient than men. (Just kidding…or am I?)

YES. I am sick of this movement in the media depicting men as these helpless creatures who can’t fend for themselves or take responsibility without a female nurturer. Gross.
