I know I am a few years late, but I just finished one of the most amazing books I have ever read! You may remember the hype a little while ago about a little book by a Sex and the City writer and a consultant called He’s Just Not That Into You.
When I first heard about this bestseller, I thought, “How dumb. Only really, really desperate girls would ever pick up this piece of self-help trash.” Man, was I wrong. I heard that the book was being made into a movie with actors like Drew Barrymore and Scarlet Johhansen. I like these two ladies, and I figured that any project they signed on for has got to be something good.
Coincidently, the other day at the library the book was on the to-be-shelved cart and I casually picked it up and hid it under my Toni Morrison novel. I figured that if it was good enough for Drew and Scarlet, it was good enough for me!
The authors formatted the book in a question and answer style, with a lot of humor and wit thrown in for good measure. The authors address the many mistakes that women make with guys, and their idiotic attempts to snag a man. An interesting twist is that the book is mainly written from a guy’s perspective, and it is almost like you are getting an inside look into their minds. With chapters like “He’s Just Not That Into You If He’s Not Calling You” and “He’s Just Not That Into You If He’s Breaking Up With You”, author Greg Behrendt gives the hard-to-digest truth about relationships. While his advice may seem a bit harsh, his rationale is that most girls are “wasting the pretty” on guys that are simply, well, just not that into them! It’s a simple concept, but one that a lot of girls, including myself, have fallen for. I think I had one of Oprah’s “Ah ha!” moments after reading this baby.
Greg, I salute you for telling it like it is for all of us girls who actually have standards but lose site of them because of some guy. You rock.
